About RIAMD ![]() Research Institute for Advanced Materials Design (RIAMD) is an independent, nonprofit, public benefit, applied physics and materials science research and development corporation. Our purpose is design of new, advanced nano-scale materials and creation and transfer of corresponding technology in engineering and physical sciences. Using creative and new approaches to science, we are developing new nano-scale materials that could address nation's energy challenges, in particular to lead to vastly more-efficient energy technologies. Research at RIAMD is interdisciplinary, crossing boundaries between condensed matter physics, materials science, biology, and applied mathematics. We are focused on high-risk, high-award research that could potentially lead to game-changing technologies. By exploiting synergy between predictive calculations and experiment we enable design of new advanced materials. The development and processing of materials is complex. Although scientific investigations have helped greatly in understanding the underlying phenomena, there remain many problems where quantitative treatments are dismally lacking. In addition to industrial interest, materials science has gradually developed into a field which provides tests for condensed matter or solid state theories. New physics emerge because of the diverse new material properties which need to be explained. | OO |
