Research at RIAMD ![]() It crosses boundaries between the fields of condensed matter physics, materials science and engineering, biology, and applied mathematics. We are especially interested in and stimulate high-risk, high-award research that could potentially lead to game-changing technologies. GO> Addresses nation's energy challenges Using creative and new approaches to science, we are developing new nano-scale materials that could potentially lead to vastly more-efficient energy technologies. By exploiting synergy between predictive calculations and experiment we enable materials by design, e.g., nanostructures for solar applications, thermoelectric materials, absorbers, transparent conductors, to name just a few. GO>Is innovative and cost efficient The historic practice in materials science was intuitive-driven or ad hoc materials and nanostructure discovery, Edisonian approach, that is followed by a laborious and costly phase of definition and optimization. We are exploiting synergy between predictive calculations and experiment to enable design of new advanced materials. GO> | OO |
