Research at RIAMD ![]() It crosses boundaries between the fields of condensed matter physics, materials science and engineering, biology, and applied mathematics. We are especially interested in and stimulate high-risk, high-award research that could potentially lead to game-changing technologies. By exploiting synergy between predictive calculations and experiment we enable design of new advanced materials. We will understand the relationships between the structure of materials at atomic or molecular scales and their macroscopic properties, which consequently will lead to creation of materials with tailored properties, e.g., nanostructures for solar applications, thermoelectric materials, absorbers, transparent conductors, to name just a few. In addition to industrial interest, materials science has gradually developed into a field which provides tests for condensed matter or solid state theories. New physics emerge because of the diverse new material properties which need to be explained. We are especially interested in the creation and study of materials whose defining structural properties are anywhere from less than a nanometer to one hundred nanometers in scale, such as molecularly engineered materials.
